Enrichment

SMALL SCHOOL, BIG OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to our exciting and stimulating Small School...Big Questions Curriculum, we also provide further opportunities to enhance children’s learning wherever possible. We offer a range of different enrichment activities and events in order to ensure we are equipping our children with the knowledge and cultural capital to succeed in life. In addition, enrichment activities and events are in place to further develop the provision of spiritual, moral, social and cultural education as well as the promotion of British Values and the understanding of protected characteristics. These include:

After School Clubs

Our curriculum extends beyond the National Curriculum and includes a wide range of enriching experiences and opportunities both within and beyond the school day. This includes a programme of after-school clubs, that support the core curriculum offer, as well as those which develop specific skills, such as gardening, coding, languages.

Whole School Theme Days/Weeks

Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer the children at Milstead. These include Cool to be Kind Week (Anti-bullying), Faith Art Week, Hello Yellow Day, Comic Relief, World Book Day/Week, Sports Day, Fair Trade Fortnight, Science Week, Mrs Friday's Fridays (themed days), class themed days linked to topics and many more.

Three times a year we have a whole school learning day in the woods where children have the opportunity to work with others from different classes in the school, promoting our sense of community and building relationships.  These days are usually themed around the seasons supporting learning about the every changing environment.

Trips

Class trips are planned carefully and with consideration to ensure enrichment to current learning.  Trip offers are planned over our two year curriculum cycle and are bespoke to the 'Big Question' learning.  Some trips involve the whole school, such as an annual visit to Torry Hill Estate Gardens to create works of art for the local Horticultural Society Art competition.  Each year the art takes on a different focus linked to current learning and gives a planned opportunity to embed, enrich or consolidate specific art skills.  We also make a whole school trip to the beach each year, which gives us a wonderful sense of community and togetherness as well as immersing ourselves in a planned beach investigation.
